GENTRY — The Prairie Grove girls’ basketball team overcame a slow start with a strong defensive effort in the third quarter to overtake Gentry and win, 40-36, Friday.

Gentry got 3-pointers from Hannah Boss and Haley Hays to take an early, 12-7, first quarter lead, but the Lady Pioneers were outscored by the visitors in each quarter beyond that. Prairie Grove uncorked a virtual lid on the basket they have struggled with at times, answering with a trio of 3-pointers, including two by Emily Grant in the second period. Camree Bartholomew had all 5 of her points in the quarter. Gentry offset that with Boss making 3 of 4 free thows and four points from Chastery Fuamatu.

Prairie Grove limited Gentry to six points in the third on two buckets by Boss and one from Madison Ward. Grant continued to shoot the ball and scored five for Prairie Grove with another 3-pointer. Audrey Doering scored 8 of Prairie Grove’s 11 points in the fourth quarter, countering 5 points by Fuamatu, who had a 3-point play.

Grant led Prairie Grove with 13 points, followed by Doering with 10. Gentry’s high scorer was Boss with 12. Fuamatu was also in double figures with 10 and Hays added 9.
