MAYSVILLE EXTENSION HOMEMAKERS CLUB NEWS

Maysville Extension Homemakers Club met at the Maysville Community Building for the March 23 meeting. Lunch hostess was Orpha Wardlaw. The business meeting was called to order by President Wardlaw and welcome given by Vice President Jane Wilber.

We sang Edelweiss and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Inspiratio­n was given by Dianna Afuvai entitled “This Special Day.”

Carol Ann Walker gave an interestin­g lesson on food comparison — costs, nutrition and quality. New food labels will be larger bold print with updated serving size, changes in added sugars, nutrient value and unit price. She also talked about the pros and cons of fresh, frozen and canned foods. There is not a best form of fruits and vegetables. Each has its pros and cons.

Orpha Wardlaw showed a quilt for the cultural art portion of the meeting. She also talked about storing quilts in pillowcase­s and tagging them for easy identifica­tion. Robin Reichardt showed chalkboard painted items she had made at the county cultural art workshop.

Secretary Gwen Singleton called the roll, which was answered by telling our favorite vegetable. Minutes were read and the treasurer’s report given. Volunteer hours were turned in.

Several from our club attended the County Tea Party and reported having an enjoyable time.

Reminders were given by President Wardlaw: Election of officers at April meeting, Spring Council Meeting April 21 at the Church of Christ in Cave Springs, Spring Fund Raiser will be April 29, Annual Community Yard Sale on May 12 and 13.

A lap-robe workshop was discussed and tabled until a future time.

Jane informed the group we have been asked to be in charge of setting up the Country Store (Fair) and make it more appealing to help with sales. Country Store money is used for 4-H scholarshi­ps.
