Gravette Lions Club sponsoring Live and Learn Day

GRAVETTE — Members of the Gravette Lions Club are finalizing plans for a day of fun and learning scheduled Saturday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event, which they are calling the Lions Live and Learn Day, will offer classes tailored to the interests of persons of all ages. It will be held at the Gravette Civic Center, located at the corner of Charlotte Street, S.W., and Third Ave., S.E.

Sessions, designed to be both instructiv­e and entertaini­ng, will be offered in five time slots. Each session will last about 45 minutes. Persons attending the free event will be able to select from presentati­ons in five areas of interest during each time slot, running from 9 to 9:45 a.m. to 1 to 1:45 p.m. All sessions are free and no advance registrati­on is required.

Class topics and presenters cover a wide range of subjects. Topics include Basic Ukelele Lessons, Mary Bourne; Caves and what you find in them, Paul Linscott, owner of the Spanish Treasure Cave; Friends and Family CPR, Gravette Fire Dept.; Eagles, Joan Reynolds, NWA Master Naturalist; Gravette History, Dodie Evans, John Mitchael and Bob Kelley, long-time Gravette residents; Digital Photograph­y, Jeff Davis; 9-1-1 for Kids, Benton County Emergency Manage-

ment Team; Fire Wise fire prevention, Gravette Fire Dept.; Food Safety, Benton County Farm Bureau; Upcoming Solar Eclipse, Rick Marshall, Sugar Creek Astronomic­al Society; Reducing Garden Pests Naturally, JB Portillo, Benton County Master Gardener; and Regrow Vegetables from Scraps, Sheryl Dalke, Benton County Master Gardener.

The recycling mobile education center sponsored by the Benton County Solid Waste District will be on hand and will be set up in the parking lot at the Civic Center for persons to tour.

Everyone is invited to come out, select classes that suit their areas of interest and enjoy the day. The Lions Club will be selling bottled water at the event.

Several area businesses are helping the Lions Club as cosponsors of the Live and Learn program. Event cosponsors include Country View Animal Care, Farm Bureau Insurance, Hiwasse Tire and Lube, Teasley Drug, Mainstreet Technologi­es, Inc., Cardinal Corner Pawn Shop, Fire Station 28 Grill and Pub, Arvest Bank, Pinnacle Propane, Hard Luck Cafe and the Hiwasse Store.
