Edna Sue Jenks

Edna Sue Jenks, 79, of Colcord, Okla., died April 18, 2017, in Siloam Springs.

She was born Dec. 17, 1937, in Gentry, to Eugene Smythe and Pauline Glass Smythe. Sue graduated from Gentry High School. She married Clinton Jenks on May 20, 1955, in Gentry. She was a volunteer for the Gentry Library and was a member of the Siloam Springs Hospital Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton; her parents, Eugene Smythe and Pauline Smythe; and one brother, Bob Smythe.

She is survived by four daughters, Suzy Harrington and husband Rick of Colcord, Barbara McNair and husband David of Colcord, Maudeen Miller and husband Ryan of Colcord, and Ruth Ochs and husband Bobby of Gentry; one son, Hank Jenks and wife Lucinda of Colcord; 12 grandchild­ren; nine great-grandchild­ren; and two brothers, Austin Smythe and wife Sharon of Fort Gibson, Okla., and Jim Smythe and wife Maureen of Dunkirk, Md.

Memorial services were held Saturday, April 22, at Countrysid­e Bible Church in Colcord, with Pastor Logan Shelley officiatin­g. The family will have a private committal service at Gentry Cemetery. Arrangemen­ts were by Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs.

George ‘Abe’ Reed

George “Abe” Reed, 95, of Springtown, died April 20, 2017, at Siloam Springs Regional Hospital, Siloam Springs.

He was born Feb. 5, 1922, in Eagle Rock, Mo., to James “Billy” Reed and Greta (Lasley) Reed. He was a retired cattleman. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Abe was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ellis and Carl; and two sisters, Freda and Jessie.

Survivors include his brother, Kenneth Reed and wife Georgia of Gentry; and sisters, Mary Holt of Fayettevil­le, Vivian Sloan of California, and Mabel Tilbur of Spencer, Iowa.

Funeral services were April 24 at Wasson Memorial Chapel, Siloam Springs. Burial followed at Springtown Cemetery, Springtown. Arrangemen­ts were by Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs.

Richard Wayne Russell

Richard Wayne Russell, 90, of Carpinteri­a, Calif., died April 7, 2017.

He was born Jan. 18, 1927, to Sam and Nora Russell in Gravette. He joined the United States Army Medical Corps in 1952 and was a part of the Korean Police Action until he was honorably discharged in 1954. He worked in welding for Bemco until retiring in 1983. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carpinteri­a and enjoyed spending his free time woodworkin­g.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Helen F. Russell, of Gravette; two sisters, Beth Thompson of San Pablo, Calif., and Mary Francis Bénedict of Hays, Kan.

A funeral service was held April 13, at First Baptist Church of Carpinteri­a, with Joe Epley officiatin­g. Arrangemen­ts were by McDermott Crockett Mortuary of Santa Barbara, Calif.
