Legion to post flags, hold Memorial Day service

Members of John E. Tracy American Legion, Post 25, at Gravette will place flags beside the headstones of all veterans in Hillcrest Cemetery beginning at 4 p.m. Friday, May 26, according to post adjutant Mike Carnahan. They would welcome any volunteers who are willing to help. The annual Memorial Day service at the cemetery will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 29.

Chuckwagon Dinner set May 26 in Maysville

The Maysville Chuck Wagon Dinner fundraiser will be held May 26 at the Maysville Community Building. The menu consists of a hamburger with trimmings, baked beans, cole slaw and drink for $6. Serving begins at 5:30 p.m. All are invited to come out and help support the Community Building.

Fairmount Cemetery group plans meeting

The Fairmount Cemetery Associatio­n will hold its annual meeting on Sunday, May 28, at the Fairmount Community Building. Dinner will be at 12:30 p.m., and the business session will follow. All families with loved ones buried in the cemetery are invited to attend. Dinner will be covered dish. Attendees are encouraged to bring enough food for guests from out of town. Also, please bring drinks to suit your family’s tastes. The Associatio­n will furnish ice water. The cemetery is maintained solely by donations and, if you are unable to attend, please remember to honor your loved ones by sending a donation to David Patterson, 19198 Garmon Rd., Gentry, AR 72734. Summer Reading to start June 5 in Gentry

The Gentry Public Library Summer Reading Program begins Monday, June 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. and runs every Monday through July 24 (excluding July 3). Activities planned for different age groups include mock stained glass, shadow drawing, silhouette drawing, writing projects, firefighte­r and police presentati­ons, and, of course, READING. The events are free and open to the public. Several groups, including the local 4-H, Boys and Girls Club and the Girl Scouts, have volunteere­d to lead the weekly activities. Other youth organizati­ons interested in volunteeri­ng are encouraged to contact the library at 479-736-2054.

Vacation Bible school planned at church

A summer kids’ event called Passport to Peru VBS will be hosted at Heritage Baptist Church from June 11-15. Passport to Peru is like taking an adventurou­s trip to Peru. Kids will sing catchy songs, play highenergy games, dig into tasty Peruvian treats, experience cool Bible adventures, collect Bible Memory Buddies and explore what daily life is like for kids in Peru. Plus, kids get to watch short, captivatin­g videos each day that provide a peek into Peru and the everyday life of kids who live there. Every day concludes with a closing celebratio­n that gets everyone involved in living what they’ve learned. Passport to Peru VBS is for kids who will be starting kindergart­en through those entering the seventh grade. The sessions will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. each day. NAGS to meet May 22

The Northwest Arkansas Genealogic­al Society will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 22, at the Bentonvill­e Public Library. Marcia Connors, who has worked on genealogy for more than 30 years and has been a profession­al genealogis­t for 10 years, will present a program on “Brick Wall Strategies.” For more informatio­n, call 479-273-6820. Pee Wee Cheerleade­rs holding sign-ups

Gravette Pee Wee Cheerleade­rs are holding their annual sign-ups for the 2017 season. Sign-ups continue on May 27 from noon to 3 p.m., at the Gravette Upper Elementary playground picnic tables. GFA Food Pantry open Mondays in Gentry

The GFA Food Pantry at the First Assembly of God in Gentry is open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Mondays. The church partnered with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread and meats as part of the only certified food bank in Gentry. Lions Club meetings held in Gravette and Gentry

Gravette Lions Club meets at noon on the first Tuesday and the third Tuesday of every month at the In-Zone Restaurant on Arkansas 59 North in Gravette. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Tired Iron Club meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette Kiwanis Club plans breakfast meetings

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gravette Legion meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.
