GRAVETTE — Many activities were planned in the area Saturday, May 6, and, with all the competition, attendance at the first annual Lions Live and Learn Day was disappointingly low. Members of the Gravette Lions Club, organizers of the event, reported, however, that the response from all attendees and presenters was very good.

Jeff Davis, club president, had presenters at all sessions complete an evaluation form and he reported that all the feedback was encouraging and enthusiastic. Several commented that they felt there were good opportunities to learn valuable information about a variety of topics. Several gave good suggestions and some recommended other sources for programs in case another Live and Learn Day is scheduled.

“The encouragement and feedback from our presenters and audiences make me feel like we are on to something worth pursuing and developing next year,” Davis said. “While we may have hosted the event, it was our great presenters and their programs that helped us with our initial Live and Learn and will help it grow.”

Class topics included Basic Ukelele Lessons, Caves and what you find in them, Gravette History, Reducing Garden Pests Naturally, Regrow Vegetables from Scraps, Food Safety, Digital Photography, 9-1-1 for Kids and the Upcoming Solar Eclipse.

Class sessions, held at the Gravette Civic Center, were scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and each class lasted about 45 minutes. Attendees were able to select up to five areas of interest and sit in on a class on that topic.

Area businesses which assisted the Lions Club as cosponsors of the event were Country View Animal Care, Farm Bureau Insurance, Hiwasse Tire and Lube, Teasley Drug, Mainstreet Technologies Inc., Cardinal Corner Pawn Shop, Fire Station 29 Pub and Grill, Arvest Bank, Pinnacle Propane, Hard Luck Cafe and the Hiwasse Store.
