Seamless Summer meals offered in Gentry

The Seamless Summer Program in Gentry offers free breakfast and lunch meals to children, 18 and younger, each weekday, June 5 through July 28 (except the week of July 4), from 8 to 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Gentry Primary School cafeteria. Adult meal prices are $2 for breakfast and $3.50 for lunch. Menus are posted on the school website, www.gentrypion­eers.com, along with informatio­n about transporta­tion to the meal sites.

Sulphur Days planned for June 24

Sulphur Days is planned in Sulphur Springs on Saturday, June 24. All are invited to come and enjoy the many events in the park all day long in celebratio­n of Independen­ce Day. The event begins with the 8 a.m. pancake breakfast and fishing derby and ends with a spectacula­r fireworks show after the sun goes down. Between the two, visitors can enjoy a car and tractor show with trophies for the best entries, a dunk tank, raffle prizes, horseshoe pitch, food vendors, kids’ jump house and water slide, and the museum raffle. Visitors can get a barbecued dinner and join the treasure hunt, all to celebrate the rich history of Sulphur Springs and of the freedoms enjoyed in the United States.

Decatur library plans reading program in July

The Iva Jane Peek Public Library in Decatur will host its annual summer reading program beginning in July. The reading program is open to kids ages 5-9. The program is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and will continue every Monday and Tuesday throughout the month of July (10-11, 17-18 and 24-25). The library is located on the northwest corner of the four-way stoplight in Decatur (121 N. Main St.). Karen Jones, librarian, is asking that anyone interested in attending this summer event pre-register by calling 479-752-7323.

Library slates book sale

A book sale to benefit the Gravette Public Library will be held Saturday, July 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Books for all ages will be on display in the former Gravette library building at 407 Charlotte Street, S.E., just east of the civic center. Book sales will be held at this location the first Saturday of each month throughout the summer.

OCH plans blood drive

The Ozarks Community Hospital of Gravette will hold a blood drive Monday, June 12, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks bloodmobil­e will be set up in the hospital parking lot and participan­ts are reminded to eat well and drink plenty of fluids prior to the blood drive. Theme of the event is “Salute a Veteran, Give Blood,” and free T-shirts will be given to all participan­ts. Photo identifica­tion is required.

Womack mobile office to visit Gravette June 15

U.S. Congressma­n Steve Womack has announced that his mobile office will make a stop in Gravette from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, June 15. The mobile office will be set up at Gravette City Hall, 604 First Ave., S.E., and Womack invites all constituen­ts in the area to visit it during those hours and bring their questions and concerns. Shoe distributi­on planned At Gravette Civic Center

A shoe distributi­on, hosted by the Samaritan’s Feet organizati­on, will be held on Saturday, July 29, at the Gravette Civic Center, 407 Charlotte St., S.E. Each registered child will receive new socks and a new pair of shoes at no charge. Anyone wishing to register their children may pick up registrati­on forms at the Gravette Public Library. Forms should be completed and returned to the library by June 24.

Gamble Cemetery group seeks donations

The Gamble Cemetery Associatio­n is asking for donations for the upkeep of the Gamble Cemetery. Please make checks payable to Gamble Cemetery Fund, c/o Besty Meek, #14 Plockton Lane, Bella Vista, AR 72715 or c/o Marie Garrison, 1816 Shelby Ave., Springdale, AR 72762. Donations may also be made at any Bank of Gravett location. Donations are tax deductible.

Summer Reading underway at library

The Gentry Public Library Summer Reading Program continues from 2 to 4 p.m., and runs every Monday through July 24 (excluding July 3). Activities planned for different age groups include mock stained glass, shadow drawing, silhouette drawing, writing projects, firefighte­r and police presentati­ons, and, of course, READING. The events are free and open to the public. Several groups, including the local 4-H, Boys and Girls Club and the Girl Scouts, have volunteere­d to lead the weekly activities. Other youth organizati­ons interested in volunteeri­ng are encouraged to contact the library at 479-736-2054.

Vacation Bible school scheduled June 11-15

A summer kids’ event called Passport to Peru VBS will be hosted at Heritage Baptist Church from June 11 to June 15. Passport to Peru is like taking an adventurou­s trip to Peru. Kids will sing catchy songs, play high-energy games, dig into tasty Peruvian treats, experience cool Bible adventures, collect Bible Memory Buddies and explore what daily life is like for kids in Peru. Plus, kids get to watch short, captivatin­g videos each day that provide a peek into Peru and the everyday life of kids who live there. Every day concludes with a closing celebratio­n that gets everyone involved in living what they’ve learned. Passport to Peru VBS is for kids who will be starting kindergart­en through those entering the seventh grade. The sessions will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. each day.
