Filing period closes for school board seats

- Staff Reports Decatur Gentry Gravette

WESTSIDE — Petitions to run for local school board seats in Gravette, Decatur and Gentry were due in at county clerks’ offices by noon on July 11, with elections set for Sept. 19.

Two of Gravette’s seats are contested, with James Brown Jr. opposing incumbant Jay Oliphant for Postition 1 and Reagena Davis and Jodi Moore vying for the Position 2 seat.

Jon Holt filed to complete the unexpired term of four years in the Gentry, Zone 2 Position. No one filed in Gentry’s Zone 5 or in Decatur’s Zone 1, meaning the current board member will continue in office unless he or she resigns.

Following is a list of the candidates who filed for seats that are up for election this year on each of the local Arkansas school districts’s boards of education, including the term length:

■ Zone 1, four years unexpired: no candidate

■ Zone 2, three years unexpired: Amy Brooks, on board

■ Zone 4, five years: incumbent Darleen Holly

■ Zone 2, four years unexpired: Jon Holt
