Fall festival planned to support musicals

The Gentry High School Fine Arts Department will be hosting a Fall Festival on Oct. 28, starting at 5 p.m., at the High School, to support its play and musical production­s this year. The festival will include games, face painting, concession­s and a Halloween-themed movie starting at 7 p.m. The festival games are free and geared toward those in sixth grade and younger, but all are welcome. Face painting will cost $1 to $3, and concession­s will cost $1 to $5. Wristbands for the movie, one drink and one bag of popcorn may be purchased in advance for $2 by contacting Kim Acuff at kacuff@gentrypion­eers.com.

Gentry SAC Chili Supper

A chili supper will be held at the Gentry Senior Activity and Wellness Center, 121 E. Main in Gentry, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27. The suggested donation is $5 per person. Meals will be available to eat in or carry out. Center director Maxine Foster invites everyone to come and enjoy the great meal and help the Senior Center raise money for its senior programs.

“My Grandma & Me” Quilt Show

“My Grandma & Me” Quilt Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Gravette Civic Center, 503 Charlotte Street S.E. in Gravette. Both antique and modern quilts will be displayed. Admission to the event is free and open to the public. It is co-sponsored by the Gravette Historical Museum and the Piece-Makers Quilt Club. OCH Fall Festival

Ozarks Community Hospital will host its annual fall festival from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, in the front parking lot of the hospital. Events will include a trunk or treat activity, a chili cookoff and games for the kids.

Bingo Night Fundraiser

A bingo night fundraiser will be held beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center, 1870 Limekiln Road in Gravette. Senior Center staff have issued an invitation for everyone to attend for a great night of fun. Bingo cards are $5 each. Bingo starts at 5:30 p.m. Come early for food, other games, and prizes. All proceeds go to the Meals on Wheels program that serves Gravette, Sulphur Springs, Decatur, Hiwasse and Maysville homebound seniors.

Miss Octoberfes­t Pageants set for Oct. 28

Trick or Treat on Main Street

Gentry’s annual Trick or Treat on Main Street event is set for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31. Children are invited to come in costume and trick or treat along Main Street from City Hall east to the railroad tracks. Organizati­ons and businesses will be passing out candy and treats at the event.

Gentry Public Library holding cookbook sale

A special cookbook sale is being held at the Gentry Public Library. The family of Marlene Wiltgen, who died Aug. 11, 2017, donated her extensive cookbook collection to the library with the request that some be incorporat­ed into the library’s circulatio­n and some be sold for funds for the library. Marlene’s cookbook collection spans decades. She was an accomplish­ed cook and avid gardener and, as many of her local customers remember, she raised chickens and sold eggs in rural Gentry for many years. Other donated cookbooks have been added to this sale. The books can be viewed at the library on Monday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon.

Blood drive set for Nov. 1 in Gentry

Decatur UMC Pantry open first, third Thursdays

The Decatur United Methodist Church Food Pantry is open the first and third Thursday evening of each month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and offers food boxes to Decatur residents, and a USDA Commodity Program to residents of Decatur and other communitie­s without a commodity program. All that is needed is a valid identifica­tion, a utility bill or piece of mail showing an address in the 72722 zip code area. The commodity program requires income informatio­n. GFA Food Pantry open Tuesdays at Gentry church

The GFA Food Pantry at the First Assembly of God in Gentry is now open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The church partnered with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread, milk and dairy products, eggs and meats as part of the only certified food bank in Gentry. Other items such as toilet paper, shampoo, cleaning products, baby supplies, etc., are also available as supplies last. Clients are asked to call for an appointmen­t. Decatur VFW post meets

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome.
