Reads for Breeds aids animal shelter, library
GRAVETTE — A Reads for Breeds event, hosted by the Gravette Gamers EAST group, was held Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Gravette dog park across from Old Town Park. The event was a benefit for the Bella Vista Animal Shelter and the Gravette Public Library. A booth was set up for face painting and most were getting their faces painted as dogs or cats. Kona Ice was on hand serving hot chocolate, snow cones and canine ice, shaved ice which provided dog water when melted.
Board members from the Bella Vista Animal Shelter were on hand with dogs which were available for adoption. Jen Miller, vice-president of the animal shelter board, introduced guests to Marigold, a shepherd mix; Piper, a shepherd mix; and Whistler, a Jack Russell terrier. Notebooks with photos of many other adoptable animals were on display.
Curt Stoops, president of the board, said the shelter, located at 32 Bella Vista Way in Bella Visa, has about 30 dogs and about 50 cats available for adoption at this time. People donating two or more books, new or used, or making a cash donation of at least $2, were entered into a drawing for door prizes. Five hundred seventy-nine books and over 100 DVDs were collected and donated to the Gravette Public Library, and cash donations of $41 were given to the Bella Vista Animal Shelter. Members of the Gravette Gamers EAST group are hoping to repeat the event in the future, according to Ashley Keller, one of the event organizers.
