Storm spotter training scheduled March 14

Benton County Storm Spotter training is scheduled for 7 p.m. March 14 at the Walmart Auditorium at Northwest Arkansas Community College in Bentonvill­e. The public is welcome to attend. The National Weather Service will conduct storm-spotter training for members of police and fire department­s, emergency management officials, local news outlets and amateur radio operators. The goal of the training is not to just recognize tornadoes, but to have some understand­ing of storm structure, which in turn better prepares the spotter for extreme and unusual circumstan­ces. Other topics to be covered include an update on the latest NWA technology and procedures, ideas for organizing and coordinati­ng spotter groups and important safety considerat­ions.

Senior center conducts ‘Have a Heart’ campaign

The Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center is conducting its “Have a Heart” campaign during the month of February. Funds are being collected to help give the gift of food to homebound seniors who might not otherwise be able to afford a meal. Persons may donate by mailing funds to Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center, P.O. Box 1648, Gravette, AR 72736, or by dropping them by the center at 1870 Limekiln Road. According to the center, $15 will feed one senior for a week. Meals are $3 each. Donors may specify a senior recipient if they choose.

Gentry planning annual chamber banquet

The Gentry Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at the Wooden Spoon Restaurant. Tickets are $25 each. The program includes a meal and, then, awards to local businesses and residents. Tickets may be purchased by calling 479-736-2358, or reserved by email at info@ gentrycham­ber.com.

Daddy-Daughter, Mother Son Dances set in March

The Gentry junior high cheerleade­rs will sponsor the annual Daddy-Daughter Dance on March 3 and Mother-Son Dance on March 10 for children, kindergart­en through sixth grade. The cost is $15 for parent and child ($5 for each additional child) and money can be turned in at any Gentry campus office in an envelope marked “DANCE.” The two dances will be at the Gentry High School cafeteria from 6:308:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased from Tahmara Coones (tcoones@gentrypion­eers.com) or Kaye Cripps (kcripps@gentrypion­eers.com). Gravette Church of God (Holiness) plans revival

The Church of God (Holiness) at Fourth and Atlanta in Gravette will be in revival March 6-11. The evangelist will be Ben Colburn of Bedford, Ind. Ben, and his wife, Sue, will sing. The Colburns were in the evangelist­ic ministry and pastorate for many years. Though they are semi-retired, they continue involvemen­t in ministry. AARP Driver’s Safety Class set for March 9

Space is available for the AARP Driver’s Safety Class on Friday, March 9, from 8:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Siloam Springs Regional Hospital’s Classroom 1 at 603 N. Progress Ave. in Siloam Springs. Cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-AARP members. Payments by cash or check are due the day of the class. Snacks and beverages will be provided. Classes are designed for drivers 55 and older. Completion of the course qualifies students for auto insurance discounts in Arkansas and Oklahoma. Behavioral health seminar planned for March 13

Faith Berry, a licensed profession­al counselor of Healthy Horizons, will speak about mental health diagnoses vs. bad behaviors. Berry will discuss how knowing the difference will affect whether to provide treatment or consequenc­es. The talk starts at 12:15 p.m. March 13 at Siloam Springs Regional Hospital’s classroom 1. Lunch is provided and there is no charge for the event. Berry is a member of the Allied Health Profession­als Staff at Siloam Springs Regional Hospital.

Diabetic nutrition class set for March 26

Siloam Springs Regional Hospital will present a diabetic nutrition class and free luncheon at noon Monday, March 26. The “Get Your Plate Into Shape” class is in the Siloam Springs Regional Hospital classroom 1 at 603 N. Progress Ave. in Siloam Springs. Lunch is provided.

Take Control of Your Health talk is March 29

Dr. Patrick Schiefelbe­in of Surgical Associates of Siloam Springs will discuss the importance of colonoscop­ies, at what age they are recommende­d and the process from first appointmen­t to the procedure and what one will learn at the followup appointmen­t. The event will be at 12:15 p.m. March 29, in SSRH’s classroom 1. Schiefelbe­in is a member of the Siloam Springs Regional Hospital medical staff.

Openings exist on Gravette library board

Three openings exist on the Gravette Public Library advisory board. Positions are for five-year terms. Applicants must live in the Gravette School District. The board meets monthly at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month. Anyone interested in being considered for a position on the board should call library supervisor Karen Benson at 479-787-6955, visit the library at 119 Main St. S.E. or Gravette City Hall at 604 First Ave. S.E.

Gravette library to hold book sale Saturday

The Gravette Public Library will hold a book sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at the old library building, 407 Charlotte St. S.E., in Gravette, just east of the Civic Center. Books for all ages, CDs, audio and video tapes will all be available at nominal prices. All proceeds will go to help fund library programs.
