Berry joins staff at Healthy Horizons

- STAFF REPORTS

Licensed professional counselor Faith Berry, MS, has joined the allied health professionals staff of Siloam Springs Regional Hospital and will be seeing patients at Healthy Horizons, a clinic offering behavioral health services.

Berry previously provided counseling at Vantage Point, where she served as an outpatient counselor and was a clinical director and social services director at Vantage Point Psychiatric Hospital. She is a Siloam Springs resident, and some of her volunteer work has included Equestrian Bridges, Benton and Washington County FINS/Dependency Neglect, and Northwest Arkansas Children’s Shelter.

Licensed with the Arkansas Board of Examiners in counseling, Berry works with clients of all ages in both the hospital and outpatient settings such as therapeutic day treatment, school-based and clinical.

“I also work with a lot of children and their families who have special needs, as local primary care providers and school districts have utilized my background in special education,” Berry said. “It’s been a privilege to work with some clients and their families for many years.”

Berry considered the field of counseling when she was in college “but there were few programs available,” she said, “so instead I went into the areas of education and politics. In 1999, I returned to school to obtain my master’s degree in counseling at John Brown University, as I realized through my employment and community work I truly enjoyed the aspects of helping others and problem-solving them.”

Drawing from her previous experience in education, trauma and working with community organizations, Berry said it has aided her in helping clients’ exploration in meeting their own needs.

“I strongly believe that successful treatment progress involves treating the whole person — mind, body and soul — not just addressing isolated issues or disorders,” Berry said. “Professional counseling is the process of building relationships with individuals that empowers them to accomplish mental health and wellness, education and career goals. It is a collaborative relationship between the counselor and the client.”

“There is a growing need for behavioral health services in our area, and we are very excited to offer those services here in Siloam Springs,” said Siloam Springs Regional with Hospital chief executive officer Patrick Kerrwood. “I am pleased to welcome Faith Berry to our allied health professionals staff and to Healthy Horizons. Her experience and compassion for her patients is an asset to the clinic.”

Berry recently joined Healthy Horizons located at 1101-1 N. Progress Ave. in Siloam Springs and is accepting new patients. Same-day appointments are available.

Berry explained that empowering her patients is the main goal, “After building the relationship, providing a solid diagnosis, aiding the client in choosing treatment goals/options, providing encouragement and education — the final goal of empowering the client is not about providing him or her with all the answers, it’s about using counseling skills to help the client find his or her own solutions, and I truly enjoy every minute of this process with each client.”
