Bulldog boys defeat Highlander­s in soccer

DECATUR — The Decatur Bulldog boys’ soccer team chalked up another win March 29, defeating the Eureka Springs Highlander­s in Eureka Springs. Since the beginning of the regular conference season, the Bulldogs have won three straight matches.

Decatur took control of the Eureka Springs contest early in the first half, scoring its first point on a shot by Rigo Rubi. Jason Gomez and Jimmy Mendoza put in two more goals by the end of the first half, taking a 3-0 lead into the halftime break.

Eureka Springs would put one past goalie Roger Hernandez for its only score. The Bulldogs went on to win 3-1 over the Highlander­s.

The Bulldogs are in third place in the 4A 1 Northwest region behind Dardanelle and Huntsville going into Week Three. The Bulldogs were to be back in action April 3 in a home conference matchup against the Prairie Grove Tigers and in an away game against the Berryville Bobcats April 6 beginning at 7 p.m.

Bulldogs stats:

Shooting attempts: Jason Gomez with 7, Jose Rubi with 4, Jimmy Mendoza and Kelvin Moreno each with two, Rigo Rubi and William Barrios each with one, for a team total of 17.

Hernandez is credited with six saves while allowing only one goal.

Girls Eureka Springs 4, Lady Bulldogs 0

In Lady Bulldogs soccer news, the Eureka Springs Lady Highlander­s defeated the Decatur Lady Bulldogs, 4-0.

The Decatur Lady Bulldogs will play a home game against the Lady Tigers of Prairie Grove April 3. They will travel to Berryville to take on the Lady Bobcats on Friday in a 5 p.m. match, weather permitting.
