Decatur girls tear up track at Mansfield Quad City

DECATUR — The Decatur High School track team finished its regular season meet schedule with a trip to Mansfield High School’s Mansfield Quad City meet April 16.

Desi Meek, the No. 1 1A girls’ athlete in Arkansas, broke several meet records and set a new personal best in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash and the 400-meter run.

Destiny Mejia continued her quest for a new personal best in the high jump. While taking first place in the event at 5-01, she elected to take three chances to set a new high mark of 5-04. She missed the first two attempts. A leg grazed the bar on her last jump, knocking it down and preventing her from achieving her goal.

Jimmy Mendoza tore up the track with a first-place finish in the 200-meter run while teammate Johnny Brandon took first in the 400 meter run for the boys’ team.

Both Decatur girls’ and boys’ teams will participate in the 1A Northwest Regional Meet in Harrison today beginning at 3:30 p.m.
