Gentry eliminated from district play
LINCOLN — Higher seeds were winners Thursday at the 4A-1 District baseball tournament hosted by Lincoln.
Gravette was eliminated with a 3-1 loss to Huntsville, while Gentry lost 4-0 to Pea Ridge Friday to end the Pioneers’ season.
Pea Ridge 4, Gentry 0
Pea Ridge junior Tyler Odell threw only 82 pitches in a dominating performance as Pea Ridge defeated Gentry, 4-0. Jakota Sainsbury left the game after suffering an injury sliding into third with the Blackhawks leading 2-0 in the third. Josh
Rugger came in as a pinchrunner to replace him and scored on Hayden Holtgrewe’s sacrifice fly. Odell recorded two strikeouts in the top of the fourth inning as he retired the Pioneers in order. Pea Ridge would add another run later while holding Gentry scoreless.
Huntsville 3, Gravette 1
Huntsville kept Gravette scoreless despite allowing two runners to get on in the bottom of the third. Drake Short reached on an error going all the way to second base while the Eagles kicked the ball around. Kenton Tajchman drew a walk, but Huntsville starter Ty Buchanan struck out the next batter, then induced consecutive fly outs to turn away the threat.
Huntsville went up 1-0 in the top of the fourth and added a pair of runs in the fifth. Gravette got on the scoreboard with a single run in its last at-bat. Senior Ty Shackelford drove in a pair of runs for the Eagles. Tanner Harris went 2-for-3 with a double. With two base runners in scoring position, Shackelford drilled a 1-1 pitch into right center to give the Eagles a 3-0 cushion.
