Town hall meeting set May 15 in Gentry

The city of Gentry will host a town hall meeting at 6 p.m. May 15 in the Gentry Public Library’s McKee Community Room, located at 105 E. Main St. in Gentry. Details on the Master Park Plan, along with updates on other current projects, will be shared.

Prayer breakfast slated Thursday in Gentry

The National Day of Prayer is Thursday, May 3. It will be observed in Gentry with a prayer breakfast at First Christian Church from 7 to 8 a.m. The featured speaker will be Pastor Eddie Knight from First Baptist Church. Everyone in the community is invited to attend.

Kindergart­en, pre-K enrollment set in Decatur

Open enrollment for preK and kindergart­en for Decatur Public Schools for the 2018-19 school year will be Thursday, May 3, and Friday, May 4, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Both enrollment­s will take place at Decatur Northside Elementary, 9083 Mt. Olive Road. Requiremen­ts for kindergart­en enrollment include being 5 years of age on or before Aug. 1, 2018, providing a birth certificat­e, up-to-date immunizati­on record, current physical, Social Security number (or the school can use a state-assigned waiver number). Requiremen­ts for pre-K enrollment are being 3 or 4 years of age on or before Aug. 1, 2018, proof of residency, proof of income, birth certificat­e, Social Security number (or the school can use a state-assigned waiver number), current physical and an up-to-date immunizati­on record.

Red Cross blood drive scheduled Thursday

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, May 3, at Gravette High School, 325 Lion Drive. All blood types are needed. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identifica­tion are required at check-in. Individual­s who are 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requiremen­ts.

Healthy Community Fair planned Friday

Siloam Springs Regional Hospital will hold its annual Healthy Community Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 5. The event is free for all ages and is on the hospital campus at 603 N. Progress Ave. in Siloam Springs. There will be a vendor expo, teddy bear clinic, emergency services vehicles, a “Healthy Journey” activity for the whole family and more. Library book sale scheduled Saturday

A book sale will be held at the former Gravette Public Library, 407 Charlotte St. S.E., just east of the civic center, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5. Books and DVDs for all ages and interests will be on sale at bargain prices. All proceeds will go for Gravette Public Library programs.

Amateur radio club to hold monthly meeting

The Bella Vista Amateur Radio Club holds its monthly meetings at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month at Highland Christian Church. For those interested in acquiring an amateur radio license, the club also administer­s FCC exams on the second Saturday of each month at 2 p.m. All meetings and exams are held at Highland Christian Church, located at 1500 Forest Hills Blvd. (Hwy. 279), in Bella Vista. Smoked rib fundraiser orders close May 18

The Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center in Gravette will be selling smoked pork baby back ribs for the Memorial Day weekend. Orders will be taken through Friday, May 18, for a full rack of ribs at $10 per rack or a half rack of ribs at $6 per rack. Come by the center or call 479-7875950 to place your order. Orders will be available to pick up at the Senior Center, located at 1870 Limekiln Road, on Friday, May 25, from noon to 4 p.m. Delivery will be made to local businesses if requested. All proceeds go to the Meals on Wheels program that serves homebound seniors in the Gravette, Decatur, Sulphur Springs, Hiwasse and Maysville areas.

Free GED prep classes offered through May 11

Free classes to prepare people for taking the GED exam are being offered through May 11 at the Gravette Public Library. Classes will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday evenings only, at the library, 119 Main St. S.E. Interested persons may enroll by calling 479-986-6911 or by attending the class. Classes are open enrollment. Students may start anytime and finish when they are ready.

Decatur UMC Pantry open first, third Thursdays

The Decatur United Methodist Church Food Pantry is open the first and third Thursday of each month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and offers food boxes to Decatur residents. All that is needed is a valid identifica­tion, a utility bill or piece of mail showing an address in the 72722 ZIP code area. Also available is a USDA commodity program to residents of Decatur and other communitie­s without a commodity program. The commodity program requires income informatio­n. GFA Food Pantry open Tuesdays at Gentry church

The GFA Food Pantry at the First Assembly of God in Gentry is open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The church partnered with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread, milk and dairy products, eggs, and meats as part of the only certified food bank in Gentry. Other items such as toilet paper, shampoo, cleaning products and baby supplies, are also available as supplies last. Clients are asked to call for an appointmen­t.
