Ag Fair held at intermediate school
More than 300 thirdthrough fifth-grade students in the Gentry Intermediate School attended an Ag Career Fair at the school on Friday.
The event included a mobile dairy classroom from Southwest Dairy Farmers, a mobile aquarium from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and the ag experience trailer from Farm Bureau, as well as exhibits from organizations such as the Benton County Extension office, Pro-Vet of Siloam Springs, Gentry High School ag students, M&M Farms, Benton County Conservation District, and BOSS Poultry.
The event was originally planned to be in the Gentry Park, but rainy weather moved it into the shelter of the school’s bus tunnel.
The fair was organized by four students from the school’s EAST Initiative — fourth-graders Carah Hood, Destiny CampCruz and Adriana Jessen, and fifth-grader Bailey Malone. Wyatt Gardisser, now a sixth grader who has moved on to the Middle School, suggested the project and also worked on it last year, according to teacher Dorothy Ivey.
EAST (Education Advanced by Service and Technology) transforms schools and communities by empowering people with technology and encouraging critical thinking, creative problemsolving and engagement in positive real-world experiences, according to the national organization’s website, www.eastinitiative.org.
