GRAVETTE — Patrons of the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center enjoyed a full day of activities Thursday, Dec. 20. Some began arriving at 9 a.m. for a morning of fun and games, working puzzles, including word-search puzzles and a tricky Christmas carol identification contest.

Snacks of cheese and crackers, cocktail sausages, candies, cookies, hot cider and coffee were served. A “dirty Santa” gift exchange was held, with each person wishing to participate bringing a gift valued at $5 or less.

At 11 a.m., a group of singers from the Gravette Holiness Bible School arrived and entertained the guests by singing several Christmas carols, accompanied by Sherry Wood on the piano. The singers stayed to enjoy Christmas dinner at the Center.

Shortly before dinner, judging was held for the Center’s annual ugly sweater contest. Five contestants had entered, Connie Adams, La Vonda Augustine, Coleen Dickinson, Carole Robel and Juanita Whiteside. Winners, selected by paper ballot, were La Vonda Augustine, first, with her flamingo sweater and matching hat; Connie Adams, second, with a sweater featuring a festive pup dressed for the holidays; and Carole Robel, third, dressed in an elf costume. Each received a bag of gifts. Most agreed the judging was based, not on the ugliest sweaters, but on which were the cutest.

Guests joined in singing a few traditional Christmas songs while waiting for lunch to be served. More than 50 guests enjoyed the Christmas dinner, with a menu featuring glazed ham, sweet potato casserole, broccoli and cheese casserole, Waldorf salad, a roll and coconut cream dessert.

Several folks returned at 5 p.m. for pizza and a movie. Several varieties of pizza and soft drinks were served, followed by the screening of the movie, “White Christmas.”
