WATTS, Okla. — In a reversal of fortune, the Decatur Lady Bulldogs found themselves on the losing end of a close basketball contest when the team traveled to Watts, Okla., Dec. 18, for the second non-conference matchup against the Lady Engineers in the Watts High School gym.

The last time these two teams met was at Peterson Gym in Decatur Nov. 13. In that contest, the Lady Engineers lost to a stronger and more aggressive Lady Bulldog team by 40 points. This latest contest ended much closer than the earlier meeting, with Watts taking the victory by three.

The Lady Engineers hit the court with a vengeance and put up the first two points 15 seconds into the contest. The Lady Bulldogs answered with a two pointer 15 second later. From that point, Watts began building its lead, pulling out ahead of Decatur by as much as five towards the end of the first quarter.

Watts continued to widen its lead by as much as 10 midway through the second quarter. A late run by the Lady Bulldogs brought Decatur to within four points by the halftime break.

At the six-minute mark in the third quarter, the Lady Bulldog pulled ahead of the Lady Engineers by one. But this moment of glory was brief because, on the next Watts possession, the Lady Engineers recaptured the lead. Watts built a sevenpoint lead going into the final eight minutes of the contest.

Just as it looked like the Decatur was out of the contest, a late run pulled the Lady Bulldogs to within one with a minute left. But the Watts Lady Engineers poured on the coals and held on to defeat the Decatur Lady Bulldogs, 48-45, in a hard-fought contest by both sides.
