Electrical Safety Show

“Making Accidents Disappear,” a magic show with an emphasis on electrical safety, will be presented at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 18, at the Gravette Public Library. “Making Accidents Disappear,” which was written and performed by Scott Davis, is an educationa­l and entertaini­ng program that teaches children the importance of behaving safely around electricit­y through audience participat­ion, comedy, stories and magic. The event is sponsored by Carroll Electric Cooperativ­e.

Mt. Pleasant Kids’ Day

Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, located five miles east of Gravette on Arkansas Highway 72, will host Kids’ Day on Saturday, July 20, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children, ages 3 through high school, are invited to attend. There will be classes for all ages of children with Bible lessons, crafts, games and food. All are invited to come and join in the fun. For more informatio­n, call 479-633-1555.

Quilt, craft class

A free class for all area quilters and craft enthusiast­s will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at the Gravette Church of Christ annex, 202 Irving Street S.W. Instructio­n on a quilt block will be given, followed by a “show and tell” session. Please bring finished projects or works in progress and a snack to share.

NAGS to meet

The Northwest Arkansas Genealogic­al Society will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 22, in the Bentonvill­e Public Library, 405 South Main Street in Bentonvill­e. Tony Wappel, the Washington County Archivist, will present a program on researchin­g genealogic­al records at the Washington County Courthouse. For further informatio­n, call 479-271-6820. Gentry First Assembly VBS

Gentry First Assembly is having Vacation Bible School on Wednesday, July 24, through Friday, July 26, and Monday, July 29, through Wednesday, July 31. The theme is “You’ve Got a Friend in Me!” This is for ages 3-12, and it will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. each day. The church is located at 821 East Main Street in Gentry, just east of the Dollar General. American Legion flagpole fundraisin­g

The John E. Tracy American Legion Post at Gravette is conducting a fundraisin­g drive to raise money to replace the flagpoles at Hillcrest Cemetery. The poles now in use are rusting and in need of replacemen­t. Plans are to purchase larger aluminum poles at an approximat­e cost of $7,800. A Hillcrest Cemetery flagpole fund has been opened at the Bank of Gravett and people may make donations there. Anyone having questions may call post commander Bill Mattler, 479-640-1199.

Gentry Public Library Summer Reading Program

The GPL summer reading program, “A Universe of Stories,” is held every Tuesday, from 11 a.m. to noon, through July 23. Activities include crafts, book readings, journaling, puzzles and short films. On July 23, Marshall Mitchell will entertain with his production of Cowboy Music for Kids. Summer reading program attendees will receive giveaways and snacks to take home each week. Children who keep reading logs will be eligible for prize drawings. Reservatio­ns are required, and capacity is limited to 25 children. Please register in person at the library, 105 East Main Street. Gravette Public Library Summer Reading Program

The summer reading program, “A Universe of Stories,” at Gravette Public Library began June 1 for teen and adult readers. Teens going into grades 7-12 and adults may come by the library, choose a reading goal and pick up their reading log. Teen activities will be held on Tuesdays through Aug. 6, at 4 p.m. The activity for July 23 will be Living and Working in Space. Adult activities will be held on Tuesdays, July 23 through Aug. 6, at 7 p.m. The activity for July 23 will be the 50th Anniversar­y of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing.

A Spoonful Potluck fundraiser

The Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center will be hosting a potluck dinner fundraiser Tuesday, July 30, at 5:30 p.m. The Senior Center staff will provide the meat and asks that everyone bring a side dish or dessert. There will be a jar placed beside each dish and for each spoonful you take, you drop a quarter in the jar. The Center is located at 1870 Limekiln Road in Gravette. Come join the fun, eat some good food and support the Meals on Wheels program that serves homebound seniors in the Gravette, Decatur, Sulphur Springs, Hiwasse and Maysville areas.

Art in the Library

Gentry Public Library is seeking local artists, photograph­ers, writers, performers and musicians interested in showcasing their works in public exhibition­s at the library. The works will be displayed or performed in a designated area for a specific time period. Works will be juried by a library committee and must be appropriat­e for the general public.
