Book Reading/ Signing with Ashley Franklin

Gentry Public Library invites everyone, especially children, to the reading and book signing of Northwest Arkansas resident Ashley Franklin from 3 to 5 p.m. on Nov. 22. Ashley’s book is “Almost Snow White.” If you’ve ever wondered if you were too anything, you’ll relate to Tameika and her story. It’s a completely delightful book. Books can be purchased at the event.

Movie and Snacks at the Library

Bring the kiddos into the Gentry Public Library for a movie and snack on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (Nov. 25, 26 and 27). Each day there will be a different movie and snack. Movies will start at noon. Call the library for more details at 479-736-2054.

Veterans Recognitio­n Program

The Gravette High School EAST program is partnering with R&R Packaging in a special project to recognize local veterans. Veterans should bring a picture of themselves in uniform to City Hall by Dec. 1. Anyone who does not have a picture may come to the Gravette Public Library from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, or from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, to have a photo taken. Maysville Craft Fair

Maysville Extension Homemakers will hold its annual Crafts and More Fair from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, and from 9 a.m. until an undetermin­ed time on Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Maysville Community Building. Baked goods for holiday dinners, handcrafte­d items for decor and gift-giving will be offered for sale. Sloppy joes will be available from the snack bar in the kitchen on Friday; and chili dogs, Frito pie or bowls of chili on Saturday. Booth space is available for $10. Community Thanksgivi­ng Service

Gentry’s Community Thanksgivi­ng Service will be hosted by First Baptist Church at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24. Everyone is invited to attend. Bring finger foods for fellowship following the service.

Hiwasse Hometown Christmas

The community of Hiwasse will celebrate a Hiwasse Hallmark Christmas beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at the Hiwasse Store. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus are scheduled to attend the event, sponsored by John and Julie Holloway, owners of the Hiwassse Store and TriState Propane. Face painting for the youngsters, free hot cocoa, cider and popcorn will be provided. A decorated tree will be lighted during the evening.

Annual Christmas Bazaar

The Decatur United Methodist will have its annual Christmas Bazaar on Friday, Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a soup and sandwich lunch for $5, a bake sale, crafts, jewelry and “gently-used” Christmas items.

Gravette Thanksgivi­ng Dinner

Gravette area churches and businesses will sponsor the 11th annual Gravette community Thanksgivi­ng dinner Nov. 23 in the cafeteria at Gravette High School. Dinner service begins at 11 a.m. and will continue through 1 p.m. This year’s event will honor Evelyn McGraw.

Libraries conducting sweater drive

Gentry and Gravette public libraries are participat­ing in the AETN Mister Rogers Neighborho­od Sweater Drive through Nov. 30. The libraries are collecting new and gentlyused sweaters and other cold-weather items to donate to local charities. Please bring items to the Gentry Library Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or Saturday 9 a.m. to noon. Items may be brought to the Gravette Library Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Christmas Tea set in Gentry

Gentry First Baptist Church invites the community to its annual Christmas Tea at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, in the FBC fellowship hall. It will include the sharing of faith from ladies present. The cost is $3. Please bring a teacup. RSVP to the church office at 479736-2646 and pay at the door.

Gentry Christmas Parade

Gentry’s annual Christmas Parade is set for 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14. This year’s theme is “A Christmas Carol.” The parade will line up and start east of Arvest Bank.

Live Nativity planned at Ozark Adventist Academy

A free walk-through live nativity will again be held at Ozark Adventist Academy from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, and from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14. The nativity scene offers visitors a journey back in time to the streets of Bethlehem and to Calvary. A fully-costumed cast of more than 100 people, as well as animals and live music, is planned to bring the story of Christ’s birth, life, crucifixio­n and resurrecti­on to life. Golf carts will be available for those unable to walk through the settings. Refreshmen­ts will be served. Non-perishable food items will be collected to be given to those in need through the food pantry at Total Life Community Center, located just south of Gentry on Arkansas Highway 59. Falling Springs Singing

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

First Baptist Pantry

First Baptist Church, located at 213 E. Roller Ave. in Decatur, holds a community food pantry on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. For more informatio­n, contact the church at 479-282-6658.

TOPS in Gentry

Gentry TOPS AR113, a nonprofit group that promotes healthy weight loss, meets every Monday at the First Christian Church Fellowship Room, Second and Giles, with a weighin at 2:15 p.m. and the meeting at 3 p.m. There is a small fee to join but the first meeting is free.
