Sulphur family loses home in fire
SULPHUR SPRINGS — A family in Sulphur Springs lost its home in a house fire Sunday evening. Sulphur Springs, Gravette and Maysville fire departments were called out at approximately 5:18 p.m. to the home at 401 N. Highway 59 for a structure fire. Occupants of the home were Joe and Jessica Manion and their three children.
When area fire departments arrived, the two-story home was burning, with heavy smoke issuing from the building. A request was made to the Decatur and Noel, Mo., fire departments for extra manpower and water supplies.
The five departments were able to extinguish the blaze, but fire crews from Sulphur Springs continued to monitor the house throughout the night and the fire rekindled. When the fire restarted, the home became fully involved and was a total loss. Sulphur Springs Mayor Shane Weber said the high winds were probably a factor.
Cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Representatives from the Red Cross helped find lodging for the family. Donations of clothing are being collected by Mayor Weber and can be taken to Sulphur Springs City Hall or to Diana’s convenience and thrift store at 300 N. Highway 59. Clothing in the following sizes is being accepted: Girls, size 14-16 clothes, shoe size 8; girls, size 7-8 clothes, shoe size 2; boys, size 3T-4T clothes, shoe size 11T; mens, size 32-34 pants, size L shirt, shoe size 9; womens, 7-8 pants, shoe size 8 1/2 (no shirt size given).
