School board holds virtual meeting

-

DECATUR — In one of the most bizarre meetings in its recent history, the Decatur School Board held its first virtual meeting not in the boardroom at Decatur Middle School but via the internet. Because of the uncertainty as to the duration of the covid-19 shutdown, the virtual meeting could well become the norm over the next several months.

Starting off the meeting was Superintendent Steve Watkins’ covid-19 response update. His report included information on the AMI packets and assignment program for both Decatur Middle and High Schools.

What follows is the complete workings of this program and how parents and students can contact the schools during this crisis.

Teachers will assign work for each day or week as they deem necessary.

AMI work is listed under the AMI tabs on the website www.decatursd. com.

AMI days 3-10 will be due by April 6 at 12 p.m.

The work for each week will be due the following Monday at 12 p.m.

All work should be turned in electronically either in Google classroom, or on a PowerPoint, Word document, or even on a piece of paper that you take a picture of and email to your teacher.

All teachers are available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day via email.

Seniors, if you have work for any teacher or received an incomplete for the third nine weeks, you have to complete that work to finish up. You will not have any new work assigned from this point moving forward.

If anyone has questions, you can do the following:

Email your teachers or call the offices and ask for help.

DHS — 479-752-3983 or Mr. Conrad’s cell 785-4184622 (text or call)

DMS — 479-752-3560 or Mrs. Courtney’s cell 479721-2182 (text or call) DNE — 479-752-3981 Administration Office — 479-752-3986

For DNE:

DNE is moving toward 100% online work/packets.

A survey is available on the school district website, www.decatursd. com, if you need to check out a device. This survey is located under the AMI Packet link at the top of the page.

Parents will have to work with their children to help complete online work and/or get to locations with internet services if necessary.

Decatur School’s Office Hours:

The Administration Office will be open for questions on Mondays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

DHS Office will be open for questions on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
