GENTRY — Graduation will be held in Gentry on Friday, July 10, according to information released by the school district on Thursday afternoon.

According to an email notification sent to parents and staff members by Brae Harper, principal of Gentry High School, the plans submitted by the school district to the Arkansas Division of Elementary and Secondary Education and have been approved.

“We are excited to announce that graduation will be able to go as planned, in Pioneer Stadium, on Friday, July 10, 2020, Harper stated in the notice. “We have moved the time to 7:30 p.m. to provide some relief from the July heat,” he added.

“As directed by current State guidelines, we are able to offer each graduate six tickets per family to attend the ceremony,” Harper said.

He said senior sponsors will be holding a pre-graduation pickup of items needed for the graduation ceremony — honor cords, completer cords, family tickets, NHS stoles, honor/high-honor stoles, Pioneer Lane fence banners, senior T-shirts, and graduation guidelines with safety information for graduates and their families — on July 2, from 5 to 8 p.m., and on July 3, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

He said it is important that either the graduate or a legal guardian stop by on one of these dates in order to pick up these items.

A backup date of Saturday, July 11, had earlier been set in the event of inclement weather on the evening of July 10.
