On my body was a live snake

Cool air passed over the rock pile and made my close relative very happy. She spent most of two afternoons cleaning out the debris in the flower beds and garden. She pulled up the gourd, excuse me, cucumber vines and some of the squash vines. The long green squash are thriving and putting on fruit daily. We have orders to please not bring more of it when you bring garden produce. I might have to buy a hog to eat the leftovers. Hey, that is not a bad idea when I think of the big old hams that we could have. But I also remember hogs and I guess I will just buy ham!

I was caught up pretty well on Thursday and decided to help in the garden cleaning. I had a fire going to burn the leaves and other stuff as we hauled it out. Why do I always get in so much trouble when I really am trying to be a good feller? There just is no rhyme or reason for it! I had an arm full of vines and other stuff when I felt something big crawling down my arm. I immediately dropped the load of trash and tried to drop the giant snake who was about to get to my body where my heart and liver are! My life was suddenly going in slow motion as that striped reptile looked me right in the eye and I think I might have at that moment screamed loud enough to scare it about half as bad as it was scaring me!

On my body was a snake, a live and crawling reptile with colored stripes on his long and slithering self! I was pretty sure he would enter my pants and kill me where I stood, and then maybe eat my flesh! Just before I passed out, my close relative grabbed that slimy old snake and threw him hard across the road. He hit running and headed into the bullpen.

I was unable to watch but she told me.

The commotion of burning and my screaming had alerted the bulls who are bored to death and they lined up at the fence. The snake never made a turn, going as fast as a snake can crawl on his slithering stomach and the bulls delighted in killing him a piece at a time! I went on to the house, fixed myself a glass of iced tea and got a cool cloth for my head. I leaned back in my recliner and thanked God for allowing me to marry such a strong partner!

It appears the cattle are all accounted for and the fences are tight. I need to go to town tomorrow, an all-day trip, I am sure, and shop for new tires for my close relative’s auto! I won’t be around to help in the cleaning of the yard or garden. I gave her my regrets.

It is my opinion, and everyone has one, we are needing some good rain. It has been so very spotty, and the rock pile is looking pretty baked. I am sure we will get some soon and it will probably come and stay a couple of weeks with rain all day and drizzle at night just about the time my favorite cows begin to pop new babies. I sure look forward to seeing the calves and, since we have so many heifers to calve, I hope for rain between now and then. I ask my friends to order that, and I will pray for it!

You can find free zucchini squash here on the home place — tons of it and we will give it without questions or asking names! Just show up and take it! I won’t pick it, you can!
