September is Library Card Sign-Up Month

- Staff Report

GRAVETTE — September is Library Card SignUp Month, a time when the Gravette Public Library joins the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to remind families that signing up for a library card provides free resources and programs.

The Gravette Public Library has over 14,500 items in its collections. It offers literacy programs as well as activities that promote hands-on learning. Although on-site programs are not currently being held because of covid-19, the library is providing Little Lions Story Time videos in a Facebook group and providing Take & Make kits that include crafts and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) projects.

“The Gravette Public Library continues to adapt and expand services to meet the evolving needs of our community. To sign up for a library card or to learn more about the library’s resources and programs, please visit www.gravettelibrary.org,” said Karen Benson, library director. “So far this year, library users have collectively saved approximately $81,724 by borrowing items from the library rather than purchasing them. This doesn’t include the savings by checking out e-books,” she added.

The library is accepting online library card registrations through its website. Cards may be picked up at the library.

This year, DC’s Wonder Woman is embarking on a mission to champion the power of a library card as Library Card Sign-Up Month honorary chair. In her new role, Wonder Woman will promote the value of libraries and encourage everyone to get their very own library card.

The Gravette Public Library is open regular hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. The library is located at 119 Main Street S.E.
