Springtown Council hears reports, updates
SPRINGTOWN — The town council, at its Aug. 11 meeting, discussed the Bredehoeft Road Project at length, with councilmember Barbara Goodman expressing her concerns related to the project and its impact on the property owners adjacent to the street.
It was reported, according to meeting minutes, that the purpose of the project is to reduce traffic on the portion of Aubrey Long Road that connects the bridge to Bredehoeft Road, thereby minimizing the environmental impact of traffic on the nearby Big Spring.
Alderman Goodman stated that the basis for this claim was based on dated material. Mayor Glenn will obtain a current assessment of the spring for the council to review at the next meeting.
Alderman Goodman suggested that town funds would be better spent on other roadways within the town and the area had once been designated as a park.
Mayor Glenn said she contacted civil engineer Ron Homeyer and is expecting a two- to threemonth delay in producing the drawings for the project.
Councilman David Clark expressed concerns about the fire hydrant at the intersection of Main and Old Springtown Road because large trucks can barely navigate the turn without striking the hydrant. It was reported that the stop sign was recently struck and reset further off the road to accommodate the large trucks; however, there is little that can be done about the hydrant.
It was reported that tree maintenance in the park is a safety and esthetic concern, so Mayor Glenn contacted Krissy Thomason, urban forestry coordinator for Arkansas Department of Agriculture, Forestry Division, and an author of a recent article in “City and Town” magazine related to tree health. A site visit from an arborist is scheduled for later in the month.
Mayor Glenn contacted
Survey 1, to complete the survey of the town park, however, there is an extended waitlist. Mayor Glenn said she is exploring other options to expedite the survey.
The council approved amended June minutes, July minutes and end-ofyear financial summaries for General and Street Funds.
In information from council members, it was reported that sand and rock need to be removed from the intersection of Highway 12 and Wasson Road and that the town’s welcome sign is partially blocked and perhaps needs to be moved higher on the pole.
