I’ve learned not to say, ‘How are you?’

We all need to continue learning and trying to better ourselves. Every day is another opportunity to cram one more bit of information in your brain and, if it is a good and needed thing, we try to use it. I continue to learn, try to be nicer and kinder to all mankind, and then I get a real lesson! A dandy piece of information that is useful to all of us!

We can say, “Hello, Glad to see you, Howdy, Hey” and many other greetings as we meet up with friends and acquaintances. We might just smile and let them start the conversation if there is to be one. I have learned not to say, “How are you?”

My close relative sent me to the post office to buy a special kind of stamp that our trusty carrier did not have in his bag this morning. I agreed to go after checking and counting and hauling out some hay. My mornings are not often so full of work that I can’t take off for a trip into town for a small errand for my lovely close relative, and maybe a cup of coffee with the members of the round table.

I was in line because it is the Christmas season and folks are buying stamps and sending packages. Lo and behold, Leonard Frisk came in and tapped me on the shoulder, I turned and said, “How are you, Leonard?” offered my hand and he began.

I learned about the gall bladder surgery, chronic skin problem, the open heart near-death of his cousin, and the trip to the vet with his motherin-law’s ferret. His wife has headaches and the kid is not doing well in school, but that was all he had time for because he had an appointment to see a dentist about his toothache. I apologized for his misery and offered prayers for him and his family. He left and my head began to hurt!

The cattle make quick work of cubes and good hay after the snow we got last weekend. They are all doing pretty good, got the scoured calf over the illness and no more have shown signs, and I am sure we are going to have some bills to pay but who to sell? I looked for a suspect in the older hides this morning and found none. Maybe need to cut down the saved heifer numbers and will think about that tomorrow. Sure hate to sell good keepers but I know my banker wants a bright January and a better year in 2021!

It is my opinion, and everyone has one, I am excited about the quick response to the need of a vaccine! I watched our vice president get his vaccination against covid and was encouraged. I am ready to roll up my sleeve and take the shot!

We have too many friends suffering from the virus and no relief in the way of treatments. This new year will surely be better and maybe, hopefully, we can depend on the government to keep out what might kill us! Who knows what will happen, but many prayers have been said and He responds to His people. I know hope is difficult but the only way is to try! Never say die, never give up!

I got the fancy little stamps and that was the last thing before the big day! Merry Christmas and remember why we celebrate!
