GENTRY — The Lady Pioneers faced strong opponents last week at Prairie Grove and then again at home against Farmington and lost two.

Against visiting Farmington on Thursday, the Lady Pioneers had nine hits but only managed one run in the seventh, while the Lady Cards scored one in the first, two in the second, two in the fourth and then four and five in the final two innings to give the Lady Pioneers no hope of a late comeback.

Gentry’s only run came on a Kyleigh Wheaton triple to right field and a Mazzi Jones bunt for a single, bringing in Wheaton.

Farmington scored its first run in its opening at-bat on an error in centerfield, but the scoring continued until the Lady Cards had racked up 14 runs for a 14-1 victory over the Lady Pioneers.

Wheaton pitched all seven innings for Gentry, allowing 15 hits and 14 runs (only six of them earned). Wheaton also walked six in the game. Morgan Uher pitched six innings for the Lady Cards, allowing seven hits and no runs. She walked two. Peyton Denham pitched the final inning for Farmington and allowed two hits and a run.

In addition to Wheaton’s triple, Jones hit a double into right field in the bottom of the third, putting

Wheaton on third base and in scoring position, but Audrie Littlejohn hit into a double play, ending the Gentry’s chances of getting on the board in the inning.

Wheaton was four for four in the game, and Jones three for four with one RBI.

The Lady Pioneers were hurt by six errors in the game. The Lady Cards had one.
