Lady Bulldogs take loss against Lady Warriors

DECATUR — The Decatur Lady Bulldog soccer team had a tough night April 12 when it battled the number one team in the 3A West, the Green Forest Lady Tigers, at Bulldog Stadium in Decatur. Even though the Lady Bulldogs lost the fight, it was a much closer contest than it was in Green Forest on March 10.

In that March 10 contest, the Lady Bulldogs held on in the first half, falling behind by three. The Lady Tigers stepped up the pressure and, by the end of the match, took the conference win 12-0. But this would be a little different with the Lady Bulldogs gaining the home-field advantage.

With a little over two minutes elapsed in the first half, the Lady Tigers struck gold as they slipped the ball past Decatur goalkeeper Adriana Mendoza for the first goal of the contest. Seven minutes later, Green Forest hit another goal to lead Decatur by two. Less than a minute later the Lady Tigers scored once again to lead by three.

Decatur went on the offensive several times during the next five minutes. Unfortunately, the Lady Tigers picked off one of the Lady Bulldog attacks and went on the offensive for the fourth successful attack on the Decatur-defended goal.

At the eight-minute mark, Jazmine Herrera went on the attack and managed to slip the ball past one of the best goalies in the conference for the Lady Bulldogs’ first and only goal.

The Lady Bulldog defensive line joined forces with Mendoza to fend off any further attacks by Green Forest and the first half ended with the Lady Tigers leading the Lady Bulldogs, 4-1.

The Green Forest Lady Tigers picked up three more goals in the second half to pull off the conference win, 7-1, over the Decatur Lady Bulldogs.
