Gravette plays host to track teams from region
WESTSIDE — Back in full swing after nearly two years of limited operation, the Gravette track program picked up from where it left off in 2019 and hosted its Gravette Invitational at Lion Stadium in Gravette Thursday afternoon.
In all, 23 track teams from Arkansas and one from Neosho, Mo., participated in this 18-event meet, including the host Lions, Gentry, Siloam Springs and Decatur.
Because of the covid-19 outbreak in March 2020, the Gravette Invitational meet, like all sports, was canceled. When some of the restrictions were lifted in 2021, the meet was allowed to take place but only 10 teams were allowed to participate that year. With all the restrictions now lifted, the 2022 event was allowed to return to a full track event.
This year Neosho High School took first place in the girls’ meet with 127 points, followed by host Gravette in second with a total of 96.33 points. Siloam Springs finished fifth with 60 points. Gentry finished in eighth place with 38 points.
On the boys’ side, Neosho also took first place with 194.50 points, followed by Siloam Springs with 74.50. Gravette took third place with 72.50, while Gentry finished eighth with 38 and Decatur finished 13th with six points.
