Nathan Donald Hawkins
Nathan Donald Hawkins, 94, of Gentry, Ark., died Feb. 12, 2023, in Gentry.
He was born on Jan. 18, 1929, to Tommy Hawkins and Thelma Cain Hawkins in Port Arthur, Texas. He was a World War II veteran, serving as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army. He worked for many years at Firestone Tire and Rubber in Lake Charles, La., until his retirement. He enjoyed dancing, traveling, playing Wii bowling at the senior center and playing chess and dominos. He spent many years raising rabbits and traveled to many places to judge them.
He was preceded in death by his late wife, Dorothy Hawkins; his parents, Tommy and Thelma Hawkins; his son, Timothy Hawkins; and siblings, Doris Miller, Lionel Hawkins, Ora Ann Perego and Ervan Hawkins.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Hawkins, of the home; his daughter, Terrie Chavez and husband Leland of Texas; two stepsons, Troy Coppedge and wife Shanda of Oklahoma, and Roy Coppedge and wife Crystal of Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Jeremy Oliver of North Carolina, Terra Grooters of Arkansas, and Hannah Davis and husband Michael of Arkansas; one greatgrandchild, Silas Davis; his brother, Gary Hawkins and wife Billie of Oklahoma; one sister in law, Kathryn Hawkins of Texas.
Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, at Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs, Ark. Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, at Victory Missionary Baptist Church in Gentry. Burial followed at Springtown Cemetery in Springtown, Ark.
