One of the most popular films of all time, Titanic, won 11 Oscars in 1998. One reason for its success was director James Cameron’s painstaking attention to detail, all the way down to the clock in the final scene. The time on it reads 2:20— exactly when the great ship sank!

Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor died at the age of 79 in 2011. In addition to acting, Taylor was an entrepreneur and the first celebrity to create her own perfume, Passion, in 1987. In the years after, 16 more fragrances were added to her collection with the most famous one—white Diamonds—still posting $200 million a year in sales!

Pharmacist John S. Pemberton created the first batch of the CocaCola soft drink in Atlanta in 1886. According to the company, the name is now the second most widely understood term in the world, after “okay!”

American medical researcher Jonas Salk developed the first successful polio vaccine in 1953. Once an epidemic, there now are fewer than 100 cases globally each year, with some scientists predicting that the devastating disease will be eradicated within two years!

English-american rock band The Who held its first U.S. concert in New York in 1967. Nearly a decade later, the band would be awarded the Guinness Book of World Records for “Loudest Band in the World”—a category that has since been eliminated for fear that trying to break it would encourage hearing damage!

Walt Disney World welcomed its 500-millionth guest in 1986. Chairman Michael Eisner and a group of Disney characters greeted Don Mcgrath, along with his wife and four daughters, as they walked through the Magic Kingdom turnstiles that day. The family was presented with a lifetime pass to all Disney parks and served as grand marshals of the Main Street Easter Parade that afternoon!
