Woman's World

An Easter surprise! Woman’s World

When reader, Lillian Ferencz, of Clearwater, Florida, asked her husband to send her a butterfly from Heaven, the angels answered in a most unique way! She writes:

-

My husband and I shared a deep love, and the thought of losing him shattered my heart. During his last days, he took my hand and promised he would always be with me, telling me that he would send me a sign to prove it. I asked him to send me a butterfly.

I lost my beloved a week before Easter, within only a few days of my birthday, as well as the birthday of our youngest son. Overcome with grief, I had no desire to celebrate that year.

My husband’s niece, Mary Ann, lived in Canada and could not make it to the funeral but wanted to spend time with me. She arrived a few days before Easter and insisted we’d both feel better if we celebrated the birthdays as well as Easter. I reluctantly agreed to at least have dinner and a small, undecorated cake.

“The bakery could not explain how the butterflies ended up on the cake!” Lillian marvels

When we placed the cake order, I made it clear to the clerk that there were to be no decorations —just a plain white cake. I watched as she noted my request on the order form.

The next day when we went back to pick up the cake, Mary Ann left me at the bakery counter while she shopped for a few other items. When the clerk brought out the cake, I was unhappily surprised to see three brightly colored plastic butterflies sitting on top.

I was very upset that Mary Ann had gone behind my back and ordered the butterflies when I had explicitly told her I did not want any decorations.

But a moment later, Mary Ann returned and, seeing the butterflies, said she was glad to see that I had changed my mind and let them decorate the cake. I assured her I had not, and she vigorously assured me she had not, so we asked to see the order form. Sure enough, it plainly stated there were to be no decorations or words on the cake.

The clerk was very apologetic, saying she didn’t know how this had happened. No one at the bakery could explain how the butterflies ended up on the cake!

After we took the cake home, it suddenly struck me—my husband had kept his promise and sent me butterflies from Heaven: one for my son’s birthday, one for Easter and one for my birthday.

A sense of peace came over me.

To this day, I still have those three butterflies, and they always remind me of my beloved husband. I have received many more butterfly messages in the last 12 years. True to his promise, my husband is still with me and my family, protecting and looking after us, like a guardian angel.

“Butterflies are one of the top ways that angels bring us messages from our loved ones in Heaven,” says Doreen Virtue, PH.D. “That’s because butterflies represent transition, showing us the beauty of our loved ones now flying free with the angels. The butterfly symbolizes letting go of the constricting body, especially if someone was very ill before they passed.

“I love when a Heavenly sign is irrefutable, like Lillian’s butterflies on her cake. What other explanation is there, except that the angels whispered into the ear of the cake decorator? Angels are like that—taking charge in order to comfort a grieving heart. I’m so glad that the angels listened to what Lillian needed, rather than what she thought she wanted.

“I’m certain that Lillian will continue to receive butterfly gifts from her husband and angels, until that day when they are reunited in Heaven.

“If you see butterflies— real or decorative— and you have a feeling that they are a sign from your loved ones in Heaven, trust that feeling!

“The angels say: ‘We send you signs that you can see with your eyes and feel with your heart and soul.’ ”
