Turn vintage postcards into a vintage tray!

-

It only takes half an hour to turn a plain tray into a retro- chic showpiece! “I simply decoupaged the bottom of the tray with vintage postcards from my favorite vacation spots,” says Ashlee Park, the designer behind Mysocalledcraftylife.com. “And it would be just as cute to use family photos or cherished greeting cards!” WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

❏ Serving tray, about 12"x22" (find red trays starting at $12.99 at Target.com. Or repurpose an old metal, plastic or wood tray by spraying it with Rust-oleum’s Painter’s Touch in Apple Red, $3.87, Homedepot.com) Vintage postcards (use your collection or search “travel postcards” on Zazzle.com to buy new cards with a vintage feel) Decoupage paste Baker’s twine in aqua (available at craft stores)

1 Wash your tray with soap and water and dry thoroughly. Test placement of cards on your tray, adjusting the spacing until you get the desired look.

2 One at a time, brush a layer of decoupage paste onto a section of the tray and the backside of a postcard and press cards in place. Repeat until all of the cards are adhered to the tray. Let dry.

3 Brush a coat of decoupage paste on top of all of the postcards, coating the entire base of the tray. Make sure to seal all of the edges of the postcards. Let dry. Brush on a second coat. Let dry completely.

I can whip up a tray in less than a half hour —it’s a great last-minute hostess gift! —Ashlee Park of Mysocalledcraftylife.com
