✔ SEARCH FOR JOBS HERE!

To find gigs demonstrating products or handing out samples, check out specialized job search sites like At Your Service Marketing (aysm.com), Promoworks (Promoworks.agency) and Actionlink (Actionlink.com)— you’ll find more reliable and higher-paying positions! Prefer a coupon-distribution type job? Search on News America Marketing (Newsamerica. com). It’s also smart to look on general job boards such as Careerbuilder.com, Monster.com and Indeed.com.

✔ PLAY UP YOUR SKILLS!

“To be a successful demonstrator, you need to feel comfortable interacting with a diverse audience,” says Rosemary Haefner of Careerbuilder.com. “To stand out from other applicants, highlight other times you led a presentation, along with any relevant sales experience. Employers want someone who is confident, has a natural sales ability and is friendly and engaging.”

✔ BE PREPARED!

A typical day for a product demonstrator may include demonstrating proper use of a product, answering customer questions about the product, selecting volunteers to work with during demonstrations, giving out samples or coupons, and conducting surveys.

✔ DON’T FORGET THE PERKS!

You may receive free items, be the first to try new products and have an opportunity to attend industry events, Haefner says. If you’re asked to demonstrate new products, be sure to ask if they want you to review or rate them online afterward—some companies pay a bonus for the review!

✔ MAKE YOURSELF A STAR!

Attracting lots of customers will keep you in demand. One trick? Casually chat up passersby, or look busy by tidying up your area if there’s a lull. The more engaged you seem, the more likely you are to attract customers! Passing out coupons? If possible, have some of the items you’re passing out coupons for on-hand. Customers may be more likely to buy it if you can hand them the coupon and the item together.

Not shy about talking to strangers? Put those people skills to good use—and get paid an average of $14 an hour—as a sales demonstrator! You’ll show how products work, pass out samples or offer up coupons to help showcase a product. Here’s how to get started:
