much do you stand to lose? Here’s how to fi nd out . . .

Quick-start guide ● What you eat

Recitas has you start with a base menu of foods that she’s found rarely cause reactions (including apples, veggie soup and basmati rice; see meal plan for full details). After that, you’ll test one new food at a time. On a given day you might add a cup of berries or four ounces of salmon. In the hours that follow, watch for signs of an allergy, sensitivity or inflammation— such as an itchy mouth or skin, flushing cheeks, headache, tummy ache or weight gain. “Most people lose a steady half pound a day after removing common inflammatory foods, so if you gain even .1 pound, that’s significant,” says Recitas. See signs of a reaction? Then skip that food for the time being; otherwise, enjoy it freely.

● No calories to count!

Allow yourself three meals and one snack daily, choosing foods you like from the base menu and continuously adding variety with foods you test and aren’t sensitive to. Simply eat until you’re pleasantly full. “You’ll consume about 2,000 calories daily,” Recitas says, “but lose much faster than on a low- cal diet full of inflammatory foods!”

● How soothing slims

When you eat foods that inflame cells, your body retains fluid to buffer irritated areas. Skip inflammatory foods and you lose water weight quickly, says Recitas. Plus, chronic inflammation can disrupt your thyroid gland—and relieving inflammation sets your thyroid free, allowing metabolism to soar. Inflammation is also proven to spike hunger hormones and belly-fattening stress hormones. “As you remove reactive foods, everything about weight loss naturally becomes easier,” she promises.

● Real-world wow

For years, New York City’s Rachel Lavin, 45, tried diet after diet with poor results. But after meeting with Recitas and cutting foods like protein powder and eggplant, she went “from a size 12 to a size 4!” We also spoke to South Carolina’s Jaci Stephens, 27, who was frequently ill and kept gaining until a pal suggested The Metabolism Plan. Skipping corn and switching from regular cheese to goat cheese helped her shed 30 pounds in 45 days and 60 pounds in all. Now in the midst of a healthy pregnancy, Jaci says: “Just by removing a few problem foods, I no longer struggle with my weight!”
