“I make $ 250 a month selling old books!”

If you have books laying around, you can turn them into cash, just like Sonja Ann Jones did

W hen a friend told me I could sell my old books on Amazon to make room for new ones, I knew it would be a great way to make money. I love reading and I have a large collection of books at home.

“The process couldn’t be easier—i signed up for a free Amazon seller account, then added the books I wanted to sell. I usually price my books between $3.99 and $5.99, but some, like textbooks, sell for much more. I list them for a few cents less than the book’s value, which I find on Amazon, ebay, Google or online bookstores, but I still make sure it’s profitable for me.

“When I make a sale, Amazon sends me a notification. I just print out a shipping label that the site provides and mail the book. Amazon takes 2% of the sale and I get the rest a week later, deposited into my checking account.

“Most of the books I sell are my own, but I also buy them at garage sales and at goingout-of-business sales. I make sure to keep an eye out for unique or rare titles, which sell better than current, popular ones. Once, a neighbor was moving, and she gave me two bags of books, which I sold for $1,000! My biggest sale was on a biography and concert book about a band—i bought it for $ 20 and sold it for $160.

“I love selling books because it’s easy and I feel like I’m paying it forward to other people who love to read. I only spend four hours a month doing this, and the money I make, about $ 250 a month, pays for travel, concerts, plays and, of course, more books!”
