Readers share little reminders of how much goodness there is in the world

“HELPING HANDS MADE MY DAY!” My shopping cart was filled to the brim, and it took me a while to place my

items on the conveyor belt. A couple with two preteen boys and a younger girl were behind me, and they were all eyeing me. After paying, as I began the slow process of bagging my groceries, I worried I was holding up the line. Just then, their mom said, “Help her!” and in no time, the kids had filled my bags! “That’s customer service!” I beamed, gratitude filling my heart. —Lena Desjardins, Oakville, Ontario

“THEIR KINDNESS IS A TRUE BLESSING” I have reached a point where age-related issues make driving difficult, so I decided to sell my car. I can get most everywhere by bus— except church. My church is on the opposite side of town and the buses don’t run on Sunday. I worried I would have to stop attending services. To my surprise, many of my fellow church members volunteered to drive me every week. Most have to get up extra early and drive out of their way to pick me up. They all even make calls to one another to be sure I always have a ride. Bless them all. Their kindness is well beyond the call of duty and deeply appreciated. — Patricia Kirk, Lawrence, KS

“HE HAD A HEART OF GOLD!” My daughter, who is a Navy pilot, was flying a plane back from Afghanistan to San Diego with a layover in London. She decided to take in the sights, but later, while in the taxi on her way back to the airport, she realized she’d left her purse on the train. Everything of importance was in that purse. When she told the taxi driver, he asked for her email address, promising he would check the lost and found at the train station and get her bag back to her if he could. To her surprise, when she got home, he messaged her saying someone had turned in her purse—and he mailed it to her with everything, even her cash, still inside.
