Throw an Outlander party!
The tantalizing timetraveling romance returns to Starz on November 4, and what better way to watch than with pals at an easy Scottish Highlands– themed gathering!
Set the mood with 18th- century accents
Gather the girls to get lost in Jamie Fraser and Claire Randall’s passionate love story with a tablescape inspired by 1700s Scotland. When entertaining pro Beth Bryan (Unskinnyboppy.com) threw an
Outlander party, she set up this display modeled after Claire’s apothecary. To get the look, drape plaid fabric across a table and add rustic wood, pewter and copper accents.
Display sips like this
Chill drinks in style by stashing bottles in ice-filled rustic metallic vessels (find ’em at thrift shops). And for extra flair, print Bryan’s labels at Unskinnyboppy.com/ Outlander, then age them by crumpling and spritzing with cooled brewed tea.
Delight them with Lallybroch lollies
No viewing party is complete without plenty of sweet snacks! Bryan stocked her candy bar with lollipops named after Jamie’s family home and bowls filled with chocolates and other treats. Simply place dollar-store cellophane bags on the table so guests can make their own goody bags.
Create a clever kilt server
To add Scottish style in seconds, place a wooden crate on a table and lay a swatch of plaid fabric over it, allowing the material to hang over the edge, then cinch the “kilt” with a leather belt. Stack scones, crudités and other bite-size snacks atop.
End on a sweet note
Dress up a store-bought sweet potato pie or other treat with syllabub, a homemade spiked whipped cream popular in the 18th century, adapted from Outlander Kitchen by Theresa CarleSanders. To make: Combine 1⁄ cup hard cider, 3 Tbs. 2 sugar, the zest of 1 orange and 1 Tbs. orange juice in a bowl; stir until sugar dissolves. Use a mixer to whip 1 pint of whipping cream until soft peaks form. Fold in the cider mixture; refrigerate 1 to 4 hours. Spoon over pie.
