“HER SMILE WAS SUCH A SWEET TREAT FOR ME!”

Recently, while waiting my turn in line at a convenience store, I noticed a woman sitting in a wheelchair by the door. She asked her grandson to buy her a chocolate bar. He was ahead of me in line, and I heard him say, “I don’t have enough money, Grandma.” I realized in that moment that I could help! I asked her what kind she wanted. She told me, and I bought it for her. It felt so good to make her day, and the smile that lit up her face made my purchase all the sweeter for me too! — Sandie Timco, St. Catharines, Ontario

“A STRANGER’S CARING MADE MY DAY!”

It was the beginning of March 2020, and I was working as a cashier in a grocery store. The situation with COVID-19 was unclear at that time. To stay on the safe side while I was working, I kept my scarf around my mouth and nose. It was the middle of the day when one of the customers came to me and said, “I have something for you,” then handed me a bunch of new masks. “You need them more than I do,” she said and smiled. I didn’t know what to say. I was more than grateful. I would never think that a customer would provide me this kind of consideration. She made my day! — Magdalena Szmurlo, Welland, Ontario

“SHE IS A HEART MOTHER TO ME!”

Sometimes God brings someone into your life that you didn’t know you needed.

For me, that person is my neighbor Pat. She is in her 70s, and we met four years ago when I moved into her neighborhood. Since that time, she has become a “heart mother” to me. When a tornado passed through our area taking down a 100-year-old pecan tree in our yard, Pat was there afterward checking on us. Again, when my mother had a stroke, this angel allowed me to share my pain and fears, reassuring me all the while. She has prayed for me, laughed with me and cried with me.
