LINCOLN — The Blackstone River Watershed Council/Friends of the Blackstone will be hosting two natural history talks.

The first one will take place today, April 23, at 3 p.m.

Steve Emma, a former adjunct professor at URI, and past president of the Rhode Island Mineral Hunters, will speak about the geology of the Blackstone River Basin and some of the types of fossils you might find in the area. After the talk, Emma will have many samples of fossils available for viewing.

The second talk will be presented by Francine Jackson, staff astronomer at Brown's Ladd Observatory.

Jackson will speak on the stars and planets visible in the spring nighttime sky and talk about the upcoming eclipse. This talk will take place on Wednesday, April 26, at 8 p.m., indoors, rain or shine.

Weather permitting, a few telescopes will be available for viewing. Bring a flashlight and an outdoor chair to sit in. Also wear sturdy shoes for walking on uneven surfaces in the dark. Both talks are free, open to the public and will take place at the Friends of the Blackstone River Environmental Center (100 New River Road, Lincoln).
