Bridge work to close por­tion of I-95

EX­ETER (AP) — Asec­tion of In­ter­state 95 north­bound in Rhode Is­land is set to be closed for a few days so crews can re­place a bridge.

The state Depart­ment of Trans­porta­tion says the sec­tion of the high­way start­ing at Exit 4 in Ex­eter will be closed start­ing Fri­day at 9 p.m. I

That sec­tion is sched­uled to re­main closed un­til 5 a.m. Mon­day. Traf­fic will be di­verted onto Route 3. Trucks will be di­rected back onto the high­way at Exit 5, us­ing the Route 102 in­ter­change in West Green­wich. Pas­sen­ger ve­hi­cles will con­tinue on Route 3 and get back on I-95 at Exit 6.

The depart­ment says its ap­proach to the project, known as a rapid bridge re­place­ment, will save nearly $1 mil­lion and four months of de­lays, com­pared with tra­di­tional construction meth­ods.
