Chateau Orlando Makes Kitchen Linens for Spotti Kitchen Studio
English artist designer Luke Edward Hall created a garden print and illustrations inspired by his favorite recipes for an exclusive collection of kitchen linens.
MILAN — Juggling painting, drawing, writing, interior design, knitwear design and home decor is the balancing act English artist and designer Luke Edward Hall is accustomed to these days. “I am a ‘yes' person. I am always open to new things,” he said, reflecting on his long list of design projects.
The clothing and homewares brand he creatively helms, Chateau Orlando, will showcase a capsule collection of kitchen linens he designed exclusively for Milan's Spotti Kitchen Studio on Monday. The unveiling will take place at a private event at the store's Viale Piave location. Backed by Wemanage Group, Chateau Orlando was founded between London and Milan in 2022.
The collaboration draws inspiration from the lively hand-illustrated French cookbook of recipes for children, “La Cuisine est un Jeu D'enfants” by Michel Oliver, published in 1963.
Hall infused his artistic flair, illustrating three of his all-time favorite recipes, which have been printed onto tea towels. A tomato print on a striped background was inspired by his own verdant garden, and his love for cooking was printed onto a bread bag and apron. Aside from designing the motifs, the natural aesthete explained he also actively participated throughout
the production phase making sure the prints sat right on the fabrics. “I like that part and want to be involved and fabric samples making sure the printing zzzis good,” he added.
The linens were made from Italian cotton and will be available in the Spotti Milano's Viale Piave 27 location and online at spotti.com and chateauorlando.com starting Tuesday.
In addition to its playful clothing, particularly knitwear, Chateau Orlando's website boasts a diverse selection of home decor and accessories. Last month, the brand teamed up with Italian furnishings brand Cc-Tapis for a line of rugs sold exclusively on both the Cc-Tapis and the Chateau Orlando websites.
Hall envisaged '70s and ‘80s-inspired geometric patterns of stripes and flowers in a rare jacquard weaving technique for the collection, made entirely by hand in the Cc-Tapis atelier in India. In 2022, Hall collaborated with Ginori 1735 for Profumi Luchino, a collection of five candles and related collectables that were inspired by his travels and the places he loves. That same year, he designed a collection of textiles for storied Venetian fabrics maker Rubelli.
Spotti Kitchen Studio is a store that sits adjacent to the Spotti showroom in Milan and serves as a convivial atmosphere for the store to host a calendar of social events where private individuals have the opportunity to mingle with professional architects, interior designers, builders and contractors.
Claudio Spotti, owner of the upscale showroom, explained that Hall's vision was a clear choice for the firm when envisaging its next tailor-made project.
“Spotti Kitchen Studio,” Spotti said,
“was born as a project to tell the story of the world of all-round cooking. We choose collaborations that can create synergies with transversal interlocutors who can complete the cooking experience and who have the same overall vision as Spotti and Chateau Orlando.”
