Hollywood’s Shiniest Weekend
Ahead of the big night on Sunday, Hollywood partied with Levi's, Saint Laurent, Prada and Armani.
“We won’t be telling you anything,”
Karla Welch teased about America
Ferrera's Oscars look on Friday night. “Don't ask us,” Ferrera smiled.
“It's iconic,” added Welch, her longtime stylist.
Welch was cohost with Levi's for the evening in honor of Ferrera's Best Supporting Actress nomination and Women's History Month. The denim brand brought together Ferrera's “Barbie” costars Ana Cruz Kayne and Ariana Greenblatt, director Greta Gerwig, Tracee Ellis Ross and Ari Graynor for an intimate night of omakase courtesy of Morihiro at their Los Angeles showroom, Levi's Haus.
“Well, they gave me the traveling pants and for that I am forever grateful,” Ferrera joked, when reminded of the jeans at the center of “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,” the 2005 film featuring a pair of Levi's that mysteriously fits each girl in a friend group perfectly, despite their different sizes.
“The best jeans ever,” Welch said. “There's no debate.”
Guests were gifted vintage Levi's
Trucker jackets that could be customized with embroidery, along with the ultimate “America” patch to mark the occasion — designed in a Barbie-inspired pink and white logo.
“I will say that the ‘Barbie' tour is gonna go down in my career. Every look from when we started last year through where we're about to end has been f–king amazing, pardon the language. I was like, ‘I think this is the best tour I've ever done,'” Welch said. “People say, ‘Oh you didn't do a Barbie theme.' But people need to remember, Barbie is whoever you and your imagination want Barbie to be.”
“We always start from a place of character, interestingly,” Ferrera said of their collaboration. “It's like, ‘Who are we going to be?'”
Who would she be channeling on Sunday? “Oscar-nominated movie star and icon,” Welch jumped in. “Where is the lie?” “There's no lie,” Ferrera laughed.
Saint Laurent has been growing its presence during Oscars week, hosting an annual dinner and bash in Los Angeles days before the award show, and Friday night was its starriest one yet.
This year's event, a partnership with Vanity Fair, was held to celebrate “Oppenheimer,” which won for Best Picture. The film's director, Christopher Nolan, who won Best Director, was
in attendance, along with producers Emma Thomas and Charles Roven, Lead Actor winner Cillian Murphy and Best Supporting Actor winner Robert Downey Jr. Also present from the cast were actors Josh Hartnett, with wife Tamsin Egerton, and Casey Affleck.
The film stars were joined by Saint Laurent ambassadors Hailey Bieber, Rosé and Zoë Kravitz, as well as Salma Hayek Pinault, Gwyneth Paltrow, Olivia Wilde, Jon Hamm, Channing Tatum, Laura Harrier, Sharon Stone, Donald Glover and more.
Vaccarello cohosted the affair with Vanity Fair's editor in chief Radhika Jones and Dame Donna Langley, chairman of Universal Pictures and Universal Filmed Entertainment Group — the studio behind “Oppenheimer.”
The late-night crowd was gathered in the Arts District, where Prada hosted a party for the Double Club Los Angeles, the third edition of the project by artist Carsten Höller, in collaboration with Luna Luna. The Friday night event featured music curation by Drake, who did not attend, but who had plenty of his own music — originals and remixes — on the playlist.
Inside, Joey King, AnnaSophia Robb and Zoe Lister-Jones stuck together in a pack, waiting in line for the various festival rides and gamely hamming it up for the cameras. Most celebrities stuck to the confines of the VIP section: Giveon and Letitia Wright hugged, Amelia Dimoldenberg introduced herself around, Khelani and Wright caught up on the sofas and Camille Rowe played with the fringe of her Prada dress as she danced.
On Saturday, Giorgio Armani held its annual Oscars party — this year in honor of Martin Scorsese.
The legendary filmmaker was up for
Best Director for “Killers of the Flower Moon.” It marked his 10th Academy Award nomination.
Where he went, the crowd followed.
And when Leonardo DiCaprio made a quiet entrance, the two and a close-knit group spent the rest of the evening in a tucked away VIP area.
“It's busy,” Callum Turner said, eyebrows raised, looking around the packed room inside the brand's Rodeo Drive flagship. It was elbow-to-elbow as the Champagne flowed.
Turner was among the newcomers at the cocktail affair, but there were many familiar faces, including Danny Ramirez.
“It feels like family,” said Ramirez, best known for “Top Gun: Maverick.” “It's starting to feel like a tradition coming here every Oscars weekend. I think it's my fourth Giorgio Armani Oscars party in a row.”
Lily Gladstone was also out in support, as were longtime Scorsese collaborator Robert De Niro, Nicolas Cage, Jeffrey Wright, Ke Huy Quan, Mamie Gummer, Willem Dafoe, Regé-Jean Page, Alessandra Ambrosio and Paris Jackson.
Jackson was upstairs admiring the Armani Privè collection, which included a line of precious jewels.
“I love shiny things,” she said. “I love pretty, shiny things.”
