A TAle of Two HullS
Azzam, —Steve nichols, newport Offshore Yachts, LLC
Iread your repartee on the monohull vs. catamaran debate, “What The Hull Are You Talking About?!” (September/October 2015), which had valid points on both sides. For the most part, the dialogue is really appropriate for sailing catamarans and power catamarans that are derived from a sailing catamaran predecessor. If [your readers] haven’t experienced the ride of a power catamaran with hydrofoil enhancement, [they’re missing out]. The initial development costs for this new generation of power catamarans was paid for by an important Middle Eastern ruler to develop a personal yacht that would meet stringent requirements—one that he could comfortably operate and enjoy without a crowd around. (You might have heard of his other yacht, which has a crew of over 70.)
