Carver school to be highlighte­d at District One board meeting

G. W. Carver Elementary School will be in the spotlight at the regular governing board meeting of Yuma Elementary School District Number One on Monday evening.

The public session starts at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the district’s board room at 450 W. 6th Street in Yuma. The board may move into executive session to discuss personnel matters or to consult with the school district’s attorney. Executive sessions are not open to the public but all decisions will be made in open session.

The board will hear monthly reports on enrollment and the district’s budget and an informatio­nal report about the district’s profession­al developmen­t day from Lurina Ward, director of learning services.

District One’s Teacher of the Year Nominees will be recognized as well as the district’s “High-Five” employees of the month.

As a way to showcase its arts program, Superinten­dent Jamie Sheldahl will recognize art teachers and student projects, which decorate the walls of the board room.

The board will also recognize donations to schools and their respective clubs and activities.

As part of its consent agenda, the board is slated to approve the following items: meeting minutes; payroll vouchers in the amount of $3,853,856.29; expense vouchers in the amount of $2,378,932.87; out-of-state travel for administra­tors, certified, and classified personnel; and student field trips.

The board also will approve human resource items under the consent agenda, including approving and ratifying: salary adjustment­s for highly per- forming personnel; the hiring of certified, classified and substitute personnel; the non-renewing of certified and classified personnel; resignatio­ns; leaves of absences; job descriptio­n updates; resignatio­n agreements and releases; and the ratificati­on of job abandonmen­t for certain classes of employees. The board may also approve and ratify requests for early release from contracts; requests to retire; and terminatio­ns for classified and substitute personnel.

Also under the consent agenda, the board may also approve monthly donations, student activities, tax credits and school activity calendars; as well as consider disposing of surplus technology equipment via competitiv­e sealed bid.

The governing board has no action items listed on its agenda.
