Ag bus catches fire, closing west I-8
An agriculture bus caught fire Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 8 near milepost 20, briefly closing the westbound lanes while firefighters were on scene.
According to Rural/Metro spokesperson Charly McMurdie, the fire was reported to the dispatch center at approximately 3:15 p.m. and came in as a bus fully engulfed in flames.
McMurdie said that firefighters from the Wellton Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene first and reported that all occupants on the bus were safely out.
Once on scene Rural/Metro firefighters started spraying water on the fire to cool down the remains of the bus, which was completely destroyed.
Traffic was detoured to Dome Valley Road while the westbound lanes were closed. The eastbound lanes remained open.
