The Arizona Western softball team was swept by Eastern Arizona in a doubleheader at home on Tuesday, losing 7-6 in game one and 11-6 in game two.

The Matadors (22-11 overall, 1410 ACCAC) had a late rally come up just short in game one. They entered the bottom of the sixth inning trailing 7-1, but cut the deficit to two runs thanks in part to a Jessica Alvarez RBI double and two basesloaded walks. In the seventh, a Caylin Espericueta single drove in Hailey Cookson to make it 7-6, but the Matadors were unable to get any closer. In game two, Eastern Arizona (23-10, 17-7) scored three runs in the top of the first to take an early lead, and then — after a two-run Cookson double pulled AWC within 5-4 in the bottom of the second — the Gila Monsters scored twice in the third and four times in the fifth to break the game open.
