Suspect in bar shooting to be extradited back to Yuma
The man wanted in connection to a bar shooting last year that sent another man to the hospital is currently in custody in the Imperial County jail and is being extradited back to Yuma to face charges.
According to the Yuma Police Department, 31-year-old Joseph Laurenzana has been identified as the main suspect in the shooting, which happened at 4:10 p.m. on Dec. 4, 2016, at the Maverick Bar, located at 460 S. 4th Ave.
It is not known when Laurenzana will be extradited, but once he is brought back he will be arrested on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder.
When Yuma police arrived at the scene, officers found a male with an apparent gunshot wound to the abdomen.
The victim was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center where he underwent surgery for his wound.
Officers secured the area near the shooting and were able to track shoe impressions of a sub- ject southbound through the alleyway and then turning westbound through private yards.
While searching the area officers found a magazine from a handgun, a handgun and clothing, all believed to be used by the shooter.
